Ellora Caves

Ellora Caves are a multi-religious rock-cut cave complex with inscriptions dating from the period 6th century CE onwards, located in the Aurangabad District of Maharashtra, India. There are over 100 caves at the site, all excavated from the basalt cliffs in the Charanandri Hills, 34 of which are open to public.These 34 monasteries and temples, extending over more than 2 km, were dug side by side in the wall of a high basalt cliff, not far from Aurangabad, in Maharashtra. Ellora, with its uninterrupted sequence of monuments dating from A.D. 600 to 1000, brings the civilization of ancient India to life.

World famous landmark

Ellore Caves along with Ajanta caves have achieved international fame. Ellore caves are worth visiting and must not be missed by the tourist visiting Aurangabad. Ellora caves can be easily accessible from Aurangabad and the visit can be clubbed with visit to some other places, which are located along the route. There was a substantial queue for buying the ticket, during our visit.

Welknown Ellora caves

Ellora Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built during 600 to 1000 CE, Ellora Caves lie in the Sahyadri hills in Aurangabad and is a 40 minutes drive from the Aurangabad. The Ellora Caves comprise Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples and over a 100 caves with only 34 open to the public excavated from the basalt cliffs in the Charanandari hills.

A good hangout

We visited this place in the afternoon, so it was hot, but as soon as you get in a cave you can cool down, haha. It was really impresive and some of the cravings still had some colours. Just this sellers everywhere were a bit annoying and we were asked like 20 times from indian tourists if they can have a selfie with us.
